The Common Ash is one of about 65 species of
Ash, which are all part of the largest family of Oleaceae (the Olive Family).
It grows throughout Europe and is extremely common in Britain on a wide
range of soils.
It is an important woodland tree and responds well to coppicing and
pollarding and was often specifically planted for this purpose.
